Took my singer to Portland to see Garbage last night. She's a huge Shirley fan (plus many other 90s singers/bands), so this was a treat. Small venue, sold out to the 1400 capacity. LOUD. The image is from my iPhone 6s, but it's still pretty accurate as far as I know. Notes in the 20Hz-80Hz range would regularly peak at 125dB or slightly more. Average over the whole show was ~115dB. Quite shocking, even behind earplugs. It's one thing to feel the cycles at very low frequencies, but when they are pushing 120dB, that's different.

I hadn't realized how much drum programming the band used. Very often Butch was clearly playing ride cymbal, but I heard high hat coming from the mains. A very good show, nonetheless.

Gear report? Helixes and rack backlines? I really loved their first album but haven't heard anything by them in a while.

I've seen them at both a small club and big arena. Rocked the house both times. When they opened for SP during MCIS, IMHO they were the better band on some nights.

I am a fan and would really like to see them. Good news to know about the volume, though.
    Ear plugs? Check.

Garbage is a really talented and great band. I really like them. Glad you enjoyed the show and didn't forget you hearing protection.

I know Duke had a Variax on at some point. But he also had a few hollow body electrics. That was stage left. I couldn't see anything to the right of the drum kit, but Steve had a few different guitars as well. No amps that I saw. All IEM.

Is Eric Avery still playing bass for them? I think he's a good fit for that band.

He was there, but I was on the opposite side of the stage and didn't recognize him. Also, I think my eyeballs were rattling most of the night... :D
