What the hell. According to my Mac Dictionary:

    spelt 1 |spɛlt|
chiefly Brit. past and past participle of spell 1 .
    spelt 2 |spelt| |spɛlt| |spɛlt|
    noun
an old kind of wheat with bearded ears and spikelets that each contain two narrow grains, not widely grown but favored as a health food. Compare with einkorn , emmer . • Triticum spelta, family Gramineae.
ORIGIN late Old English , from Old Saxon spelta. The word was rare until the 16th cent., when it was readopted from Middle Dutch.

I see a lot of cord vs. chord.
Probably best if those folks just called it a "cable" to be safe and avoid the confusion.
