By far my favorite pedal I own is my Electro Harmonix Germanium OD. The only problem is its sort of a one trick pony in terms of actual usable tone. The "bias" and "volts" knobs are really fun to use at home, but the band-mates don't appreciate it. So now I'm looking for a Germanium boost pedal similar to the EHX G-OD that can do more than just a set in stone treble boost. Some switches to go between treble/mid/bass/full boost or a tone knob would be perfect.

The D*A*M Red Rooster seems like its pretty much what I'm looking for, but its so D*A*M expensive!

TL;DR: Does anyone have some good recommendations for a <$150 USD germanium booster with some extra knobs/switches?

i believe there's a SonicVI booster in the for sale thread right now. Modeled after a Red Rooster with a CV7112 transistor. Seriously, you should buy it.

Check out the Analogman Beano, it has the hi/mid/low switch. The Catalinbread Naga Viper looks cool to me, with a frequency knob, and a knob to control its gain level, in addition to the standard volume. Definitely one of the more tweakable treble boosters I've seen.

I use a Diaz Texas Ranger, which is very similar to the Beano, and I love it. I also have the EHX Germanium OD, also a great pedal. I don't even use the bias or volt knobs though. With all of its knobs cranked, it sounds kind of like a smoother version of the mid setting on my Diaz, though it does have a different character. It also seems to have less output, though it has plenty. On the Diaz, I use the mid setting the most, but all settings sound absolutely awesome! Its my favorite pedal I have.

Maritime Analog has a germanium booster, the Bullfrog boost.

Mine has a three way toggle for the range, treble/mid/full.

Now, the range is on an adjustable knob.

Cool pedal and doesn't break the bank.

Time Machine Boost by Keeley. Old school treble boost on one side with a switch that adds some beef and a full range clean boost on the other side. I have an early one but the newer version has some added features. You can find them used at a good price.

MJM's Dallas Boost is worth checking out. It has a cream/spike switch for different sounds

I'm looking at videos/sound clips of all of them now, and wow, the Squawk sounds amazing! The Si/Ge switch in conjunction with the full range knob is awesome. And the amount of gain that thing can get up to is pretty sick. A lot of different sound possibilities there!

I'm using mine with either a Dr Z Maz 18, or Maz 8.

I like the Diaz Texas Ranger. It's a treble boost with mid and full range boost modes.

There's also the Prescription Electronics Germ.

I actually just put the EHX Germ OD on my board for practice last week.

Great pedal. I also use a BSM Model OR which has a valuable tone knob.

I like this as well. The mini toggle ets you get a more full range fuzz face tone. It is not a one trick pony. Dom't forget that riding the voue knob on your guitar will get you all sorts of in between tones as well.

You mean to say you use the EHX instead of the BSM?:omg

I would love to have a BSM..... My Texas Ranger kicked the bucket, and my EHX Germ OD really can't replace it, not at all. I'm probably gonna get a Naga Viper pretty soon, I guess the Silicon tranny is working out well in that pedal. I'd get a BSM if the price wasn't so high.
