I've been playing guitars through pedalboards and tube amps for many years now but I think would like to try out a Axe FX rig. I'm here for some advice on getting started on the budget conscious side. I'm seeing the Ultra as a fairly affordable unit these days. I play clean with delay and reverb most days but also would like light to medium gain to be available to me.

Where would you guys suggest I begin? Is the Ultra a good way to go?
I would like to have a monitoring speaker of some type, recommendations on a budget?
I would like to have a controller of some type, recommendations?

    Thanks.

Lol. All of those are good options, TBH!

Ultra is good but you'll need a midimate or maybe behringer foot controller.

Lots of people like the Alto line of 2x10 pa speakers.

If I were you, I'd buy the AX8 and an alto 210 and have fun. Less to carry and perhaps less cost.

BTW, I have an AX8 and a helix and have been happy with floor all in one units.

I had the Ultra with Gordius Little Giant controller and found the integration to be too much hassles. Any one of the integrated units (AX8, Atomic, Headrush, Helix) would get my vote over the Ultra.

Thanks guys. I had to ask about the Ultra because I saw one for sale locally and you just don't see many Fractals on the local used market. I had some folks mention getting an AX8 over the Ultra elsewhere today so I'm most likely going to write the Ultra off.

Depending on the price it would make an awesome unit for a home studio or a rack effects unit.

It seems like I see used Ultras fairly frequently. I don't see the wisdom in buying a unit that is not going to get any better. AX8, Helix LT, Amplifire all sound good and can be found used at similar price points or cheaper than what I see the Ultras going for. I suppose you can add Headrush to that list, but I have not owned one of those and can't speak to the functionality/sound.

Ultra still sounds killer but I'd go Helix Lt over it for sure.
