Just got an email from Gibson.com that says

"We would like your assistance in recovering our missing shipping ledger book from 1959-1960, which documents an important period in our 126-year-old history and the pinnacle of the Gibson Golden Era.

The 1959-1960 Gibson shipping ledger has been missing from Gibson’s archives for at least thirty years. It may not have made the move with the company from Kalamazoo, MI to Nashville, TN.

The party who safely returns the missing 1959-1960 shipping ledger book will receive a $59,000 CASH REWARD. If you believe you have it, please click the link below for more details.

This offer is open to one and all and is "no questions asked," although we reserve the right to validate information and authenticate materials as genuine articles prior to issuing rewards."

    alright - who has it?

Even if I had it, I don’t click on links. I’d call them though.

I'd laugh if it turned out the Sattilite Guitars guy had it.

Man out of all the ledgers, that's a bad year to go missing. I'm sure they'd rather 1978 go missing haha.

The 78 ledger is probably too heavy to steal or move off site anyway! :D

Someone definitely has it because there are books that cite is as a source. The Big Guitar Book comes to mind.

They'd probably sue the person if they didn't agree on that price anyways given their behavior the past few years

    .

+1 that email smells like the Legendary Nigerian Prince fishing attempts that have gone on for twenty years.
They would do better to create a youtube video with several of the successful youtuber channels (not even attempt to do it on their own).

The email also reads like "we think someone stole this ledger and we want you to find it for us". What kind of message is that? Lovely Brand message to foist out there.

They should remember that those Les Pauls listed in that ledger were discontinued amid poor sales and financial losses. The management of Gibson at the time had only reluctantly agreed to bring Les Paul and 'his log' back after ridiculing him because Fender was so badly beating them with guitar sales (and really it were the Fender amps that sold those Fender guitars). It's easy to see the whole Les Paul model affair as a pariah they could not get rid of fast enough, nor internal management distance themselves from as much as possible. Easy to expect a weekend cleaning event at the factory that dumped a lot of paperwork, materials, tools, and jigs to remove the embarrassment. It wasn't until a decade later that those guitars became 'historic' (due to a few popular bands playing cheap pawn shop finds). At the time they saw the guitar model as a mistake and no need to hang onto a mistake's records.

Gibson will need to find a few historians who are willing to do the big dig and see where that file cabinet may have ended up, just like the Atari ET game was found:

Wait until the ledgers show up, and point to hundreds of previously unreported '59 Les Paul guitars that were destroyed by bulldozer because of "Quality concerns" at the behest of Gibson. Hahahaha... wait...

Trogly makes his living mostly from Gibson and he knows what he's talking about. More than you or I do.
