My buddy is thinking about one of these...
(Gibson Custom Shop 1960 Les Paul VOS Plain Top)

-Are these guitars from Guitar Center inferior in any way to a regular historic or vos?
-Do they have a long neck tenon?
-Maybe it's cheaper because it has a plain top?
    -Are they chambered?

The 1960 VOS seems to go for a lot more money. This guitar is around 2900 new at GC.

There are great guitars, G0s are just as good as the more expensive flametop R0s. They have the long tenon and are stamped "R0" in the control cavity. Everything is the same except the top. One of Gibson's best values on one of their best guitars (Historics).

Your buddy will love it; they sound, feel, and look great.
