I have a 2010 Gibson Les Paul Custom Shop from that Guitar Center exclusive run which was based roughly on a 1959 Reissue.

If I sent it back to Gibson's Custom Repair for a refinish to say a Tobacco Burst gloss finish what would that cost? (Almost the price of the guitar?)

Has anyone had Gibson's shop do a refinish for them?

I see a lot of nice refinish guitars on here done by third parties.

Looking for suggestions and experience stories. Thanks!!

I think ballpark is around $1000-1500. I've met people through my job that have had Gibson refinish guitars for them and I think thats the general price range.

I am going to reach out to Gibson for a price before they can go up again.

GCS is not going to refin your guitar unless you are an "A" artist endorser.
Gibson repair, downtown Nashville, will refin your gibby at a high cost, $1500.+

If you don't mind losing it all when you sell, go for it. Most of us, myself included, don't buy with the intent of reselling but it happens...all the time.

You should post this over on mylespaul forums. Some of those guys are always having their guitars refinished. They could help steer you in the right direction.

Go to Historic Makeovers or Kip at Star Guitars. End of Quest.

Thanks for the input guys. I am surprised Gibson Custom Shop doesn't have a division for that.

Kip Elder at Starr Guitars is the only person that you should deal with. He charges $1,200.oo for a complete refin.
Gibson has a very good refinishing & repair department but charges $1,950.00 for a refin.

Boy, I seriously hope that 30 years from now, people don't kick themselves for taking all these perfectly fine guitars to the re-finisher. You'd think we what we've learned about what refinishing does to the value of vintage guitars, people would be afraid to do this.
