30 years ago I did the same thing with my ‘74 Les Paul custom.
The headstock was snapped to the pint of the trussrod breaking through the back of the neck.

Pre-internet so I did not have the information resources to find a solution.
I did however strip the guitar of its pickups and hardware.

The pickups(T-tops) were sold for $100 and I gave the hardware to a friend.

If this is for real it’s awesome. Gotta wonder why he left in such a hurry.

    I don't think I want to know.

Maybe that firearm is influencing me in some way.

Ive thought about it a lot over the years. The most likely explanation is probably he was a drug dealer and things got bad either with the cops or somebody else in the drug business. It would make some sense, as he would have been in the perfect spot to sell to all the rich fraternity guys. The apartment was the basement apartment of a large old house, it had its own entrance apart from the rest of the house into an unlit side street. It was right between the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority house and the sigma chi frat house.

It would also explain why he just left thousands of dollars worth of stuff in the apartment without a worry.

I think the most awesome part is he shows up years later in a Porsche, flips you a grand and drives off with a pile of money and a gun in the glove box. He doesn’t even care about the high end turn table, vinyl or leather jacket collection because he’s got an even sweeter setup at the new pad. Where ever that is.

You read about this stuff all over the internet. Guitars found in trash. So do not believe no one.

Found a 1970 YAMAHA FG acoustic (w/HSC) out by our dumpster 'bout 2 months ago.

First apt in Westwood (near UCLA campus) I moved into had a seriously comfy leather chair w/a rip in the side. When you plopped down on it it would spit out a feather-looked like we were sponsoring cock fights if we let the place go for long. Manager let us go through the apts @ end of term, found clothes, hi-end cookware, answering machines, surf gear, people even left scooters/motorcycles and just split.
Years later, found out the chair was an Eames bentwood lounge (legit).

    Alas, long gone....

Whether found in a dumpster or on Facebook, you know it's valuable.

My friend found a Gibson in the ditch, back in high school (late eighties). It was a hollow or semi-hollow body, I didn’t know the difference at the time. No headstock break and worked/played totally fine. He was driving by and saw it in the ditch at the side of the road, in an old beat up case.

We thought it was a cool find, but it wasn’t a super strat shredder, so we weren’t that excited. :rotflmao

I worked for a guy who owned a bunch of rental buildings, same deal got to clear them out when people moved out. Unbelievable the stuff that was left behind. Lots of new stuff too from overseas students who went back home after a couple years of school.

If I’m to believe all the “Gibson bashing threads” in this place, all Gibsons belong in a dumpster. ;)

fjrabon, if your tale is true, I think you should be thankful you are still alive today to tell the tale.

Guy obviously left in such a hurry for good reason: self preservation.

I don't want to believe you but it sounds so farfetched that it is probably true. I should tell you about the summer I ran into a farmer's horny daughters and their equally horny women friends. Eff guitars. Eff money. I didn't want to wake up....
