I have been playing a Martin HD28 and was looking to get something with a different vibe. Have always wanted to try a Gibson J45.
Was looking at buying new and was wondering what TGP thoughts were on these 2 models?

TIA

The True Vintage sound better and are more consistent than the Standard. If you really want a sweet J-45 style guitar order a Mayes SD-43 or buy a Santa Cruz VJ. The hide glue construction makes a difference.

I played lots of the Standards looking for my last acoustic. They all sounded lifeless and blah to me.

Wound up buying a Fuller's Vintage Guitar special reissue of a Gibson J-35. Killer guitar for the money.

Why not go to a store that stocks a lot of different acoustics both boutique as well as stock Gibson, etc. That way you'll get exactly what you want. Gryphon Strings, Elderly, Daves Guitar, The Podium, are very good stores that can help you over the phone if you don't have a good store by you.
By the way I just played a smaller Eastman acoustic that was fabulous and only $900.00
