Hi I have a Gibson Les Paul Junior with P90 pick up and are planning in buying a R6. Is there much difference in sound, they have both P90 pick ups, will they not sound well the same ?

I find i like slab bodied all mahogany guitar with p90s better than maple topped guitars with p90s. Of course there are a lot of those who do not share my opinion. YMMV

I've owned both and based on the one r6 and the two custom shop juniors I've owned it seems to me that gibson used slightly hotter pickups in the juniors.

I have an R6 and have played a Junior. They both sound good. But I like running two pups at once for the fuller, wider sound, and I get that with my R6.

The maple cap on the R6 generally imparts a little difference to the attack. Plus, the main thing I like about P-90s is having both pickups on and mixing the sound by balancing the volumes. The R6 should be excellent for that.

It is. I've developed a nice, chiming blues sound running both pups together. Generally, with the R6, I have the volume between the two about even but the tone rolled off a tick and a half lower on the bridge pup than the neck pup (which I set at 8). I run that through a Deluxe Reverb 64RI modded to get all the dirt out (no more breakup, clean as a Bermuda shore) and it's priceless for playing the blues . . .

I think the TOM vs. Wraptail bridge imparts more difference than anything else IMHO, followed by that maple cap. I have a R4 and VOS junior.

How many different P90s does Gibson use? I thought there was only one type..

I love P90s

there is only one type, but individual output will vary slightly. fwiw my current VOS Special actually runs a little cooler than my old LP Pro Deluxe.
