Gibson LP Special fell off the chair

I left it on a padded office chair, leaning against the back, butt on the chair, walked away and seconds later: THUD! I winced and turned around slowly, thinking "please, no." It slid down the slippery fabric, hit the hard wood floor and didn't break! I looked it over carefully: headstock intact, no broken tuners or hardware, nothing! Not clear where it impacted the floor even since the nitro already had a few dings and there wasn't an obvious new one. Was it still in tune? Hell no, it's not my Tele. But I'll take it.

Just wanted to post some anecdotal evidence--it's not an automatic headstock break if you drop your LP. Carry on.

Don't worry, the damage is on the inside.

A small jostle in the future will see it shear right off.

Seriously, I'm glad you dodged the bullet. Now, buy a damned stand for the thing. You can only taunt the Gibson gods so many times before they bite you . . . on the headstock.

.

Your heart was racing at the worry of impending doom, wasn't it? Drama. Do we need such drama from a product company?

Glad your guitar turned out ok.

I bought a USA Gibson for $5,000, strummed a few cowboy chords, and within four minutes the headstock resembled medium density fiberboard due to all of the repairs. I ended up giving someone my car to take it off my hands. This is a typical story about Gibson ownership according to me, trustworthy anonymous internet person.

In all seriousness, I've owned probably 20-25 various Gibsons from LPJs to a Yamano R0 and haven't snapped a headstock yet. I shipped the LPJ in a gigbag and all that happened was one of the backs of the licensed Klusons got knocked off.

It's like phone screens. Everyone knows someone with a smashed one, few people will actually smash one.

A Hercules locking stand like every guitar on display was on at the David Gilmour Guitar Collection.

Cheapest instrument went for 32K, I believe...

Everyone told me going over a bump while I drive to the gig will break my Gibson. Hasn't happened yet.
