Which would you prefer and WHY!
This should be interesting.
Neither, save your duckets just a little while longer and grab a Historic.
Neither, take the money and buy 2 Studios, one with Humbuckers and one with P-90's
I don't think he was asking for recommendations.
OP, are we talking about the old Standard or the new 2008 spec one?
The 2008 Standard. And no, I am not asking for recommendations.
love that every time you show a pic pcad... you need some hi-res pics of her...
I'd go with the Standard. I haven't played a Traditional that I've really liked yet.
If I actually posted a higher res picture of that guitar on GP what with its antiquated image handling capabilities (i.e. relative lack thereof) it wouldn't work so great. You need a site that can adjust the picture size. A higher res picture would be way too big for everybody's screen on this forum. Other forums resize images automatically. I think all they have to do is upgrade their software here at some point and it will then have this capability.
I prefer the Traditionals I've played... but a great version of either could be tempting.
I did a 30 min comparison of these 2 guitars last year at GC.
The Standard just really felt alive and warm compared to the Trad
traditional all the way i have one with a sound and finish that drops peoples jaws on the floor and i have 58 reissue, sure the 58 is more of a vintage feel but trad is AMAZING guitar...and when you find one that speaks to you, you'll know what i'm saying
The Traditionals come with 300k pots. I hate them. Yank them out and put some decent POI caps and 500k pots in and then you are rockin!
The traditional is what the new Standard should be IMO.
I'm very happy with that guitar above. Killer tone for a guitar that only weighs 7 lbs, 12 oz. The Fralin Pure PAF zebras do help. Better tone to my ears than the stock BB pros offered. But the guitar didn't sound bad out of the box with the BB's either. You can buy them used (mint, a few months old) all day long with a killer top on eBay for $1800ish (that's what I paid), less if the top isn't so nice. Nice one piece RW fretboard, nice top, if you get a good one you'll love it.
Same guitar, different lighting.
Like anything else you are just going to have to play several of each to see which ones have the magic. You won't find a great guitar, a great guitar will find you.
I just (just??) have two guitars and those are the ones (2010 Traditional and 2009 Standard). I love both...but I prefer the classic 57 pickups, though so a pickup swap in the Standard is coming soon. I love the fretboard of the Standard better (of my guitars, at least) so I tend to play that one more often.
Standard. Lighter. Seems like it sounds really good too.
I'm getting a Historic soon (R0). It will be interesting to A-B my current Lester with the R0.
