today went into a local shop to get strings, have to admit for the last 10 years have not looked at gear at all only pick up strings and walk out .
Dealer carried Gibson guitars, picked a few up, I was surprised at how poorly they were built the frets felt like barbed wire on the neck , finish was average at best, what happened? My last gibson was a Les Paul custom built in 1985
and it was flawless, not to mention the price of them now. Thought it was isolated to the one LP but everyone I picked up was flawed.

In the OP's defense, this is a way to gain substantial popularity around here...

Might depend on how they take care of the guitars, too.

Last time I tried out Gibsons in a store was last fall. I tried a bunch of Standards, Traditionals and Tributes.

    All were exceptional.

This has been my experience as well...and the only store that carries Gibson around me is guitar center and they were all floor models.

Well if they have a lot of old stock I can see it. The new Gibsons I've checked out recently have been much better, regarding QC, than those of a few years ago. Like Ford, they kind of bottomed out and now seem to have gotten back on track.

I have been watching this post today. It was stuck at 3 replies for quite a while. I didn't look then, and I'm not sure that I am any wiser for having looked now. :bonk
