    Hi Guys,

Forgive me if there are any mistakes in my English.

I would like to know about the authenticity of this guitar: Gibson SG Standard 2005. A friend of mine is selling this guitar to me and he is the second owner of the guitar. My friend does not have the Gibson Owner’s Manual and Gibson Warranty Inspection card.

I sent an email to service@gibson.com and they said that the guitar is original. But I'm still worried and would like to know what you think.

I'm confused. If he's selling it for you...and he's the 2nd owner...wouldn't that make you the first owner?

Looks like the real deal to me. Counterfeiters don't go to the lengths of stamping the pickups and pots with Gibson logo's. Gut shots look correct. Looks like US STOP/TOM. Another fake giveaway for fake is slotted metric adjusters for the TOM. That one appears correct. 'Book End' headstock looks good. Nice and sharp detail in the center. Another fake giveaway is that the book end center is usually poorly cut or is rounded by incorrect sanding methods.

Hopefully a few others will chime in. But looks like the right one to me.

Not many white SG Standards from that era cuttin' about, but yeah, it looks like the real thing. I see nothing suspicious.

In his post he admits English is not his 1st language, so I'd cut him some slack on that.

I'm sorry for my English. Just wanted to clarify that I will be the third owner of the guitar.

If it's fake they did a really good job. It looks pretty real to me but it looks like someones tried to shield under the pickups with foil or something. I'm also thinking that if Gibson said it was original, then chances are it is.

Looks real to me. Nibs on the fret ends are usually a dead giveaway, as well.

That was a genuine question. Not a dig.

I was trying to understand if he was selling it or buying it.

Could you correct my text? You would be helping me to improve my bad English. I thought it was a confusing text also.

I'm buying from a friend (second owner) , I will be the third owner.

    Hi,

Since you asked, it is just this one sentence that makes it confusing in English:

A friend of mine is selling this guitar for me and he is the second owner of the guitar.

Based on what you are saying, this sentence should read like this:

A friend of mine is selling this guitar to me and he is the second owner of the guitar.

I believe this is what you were trying to say. Sorry, I can't access the photos in photobucket where I am posting from to take a look at the SG.

    Sure thing.

    You wrote:

    It should read:
A friend of mine is selling this guitar to me. He is the second owner of the guitar.

To actually be helpful to your original question, the guitar looks real to me as well. There are a lot of small details that most scammers wouldn't bother to fake.

I have a 2005 SG Standard in Classic White finish. That guitar looks real to me.
