I love Tom Scholz' Boston guitar sound and the Rockman he designed to replicate it in later years. However I've found that it's actually producer Giorgio Moroder's version as heard in the 1983 film Scarface, that I like the most. It seems to have a much raunchier midrange to it, rather than just the 'Rockman Squawk' around 500-600 Hz. I mean "raunchy" in the phonetic sense especially, the timbre literally sounds like that word's pronunciation. I think the top end is subdued a little so that midrange is dominant, yet it doesn't sound nasally at all. It can get a little obnoxious, but to me that's part of its appeal. That whole early 1980s "cocaine rock" sound. I can't work out the frequencies though. Has anyone replicated that particular sound from the film?
