Just wondering who out there has a Girl Brand Guitar. Killer guitars built by Chris Larson.
I had Electron Girl Revisited for a few years. Great, great guitar.
Is Chris still building?
I had future girl. I loved it, the one guitar I really regret letting go. Times was tough what can ya do. Chris is a great guy and great builder.
There's a new Girl Brand @ the Acme Guitars site (in St. Louis). Chris may not be cranking 'em out but he's getting more $$ for them (they are great guitars).
I should've bought Comida Girl when I had the chance...:Spank!!
Some day I'll own one....
Yes, he is still building. I have Shop Girl, fantastic guitar. Gets more attention than my playing!
What are they selling for these days?
I almost bought one five or six years ago.. the prices were very good at the time...
If anyone has pics old or new, they should probably post them!
I have Bryan's old guitar, and I used to have Guitarzan's old guitar too. They're very cool guitars.
Here's a link for the new Girl at Acme. The last couple I've seen there have been a little on the morbid side.
I contacted Chris with some questions via email (seemed like a great guy, too: very responsive and honest), and he mentioned that they're bringing around $5k.
I wish I bought one when they were $2000. Darn Elvis Costello for driving up the prices. I would do sick things on video for a Rodeo Girl.
Man those are beautiful guitars! I remember seeing that web page years ago and really wanting one, but I just couldn't afford something like that.
How do they sound?
Kinda like a Tele Delux and a Gibson LP Jr. You would have to go to the web site and read about his pickups and electronics. www.girlbrand.com But its cool, you areable to switch between the two. Lots of usefull and different tones.
They are asking $5500 for the one at ACME.
I think they play and sound great but aesthetically they're a little too 'collector-y' for my tastes....
I've played a bunch of them...my friend was the main dealer for them a few years ago. Don't like the necks but liked the Dave Schecter-desigined pickup system...from trad to fat.
Dave Schecter runs a little-known pickup company called Ozone guitars... shhh don't tell anyone.
Yeah, and I saw him at my friend's store a few years ago. Dave has forgotten more than I'll ever know and I've been doing this stuff for decades.
Chris isn't the one designing those tops, I've heard that sometimes he doesn't agree with the message. He doesn't censor the artist doing them though, which I think says alot about him. He doesn't use her tops on every model, just a few.
They are great players, great sounding, noisy, with very weird necks.
The necks are unusual, but the offset V isn't all that different from the D'Pergo necks (as I understand them). I find Electron Girl Revisited to be VERY comfortable. It probably wouldn't be my only guitar, but I quite like it.
