GIT/Berklee Stories?

I know a bunch of people here went to GIT/Berklee. I always enjoy when someone shares stores of their time there. For example, I know there are people here who were at GIT during the tie that Scott Henderson was a student. Was it evident that he was on a level above most guitar students there? Any cool stores about jamming with Paul Gilbert or Frank Gambale?

I went to the summer night school session. Stormin' Norman Brown of The Wave/smooth jazz fame and Danny Gill of Hericane Alice (he now has a bald head and cool instructional videos "Lick Library") were two of my instructors. We got to go to a group instructional with Paul Gilbert, while he was famous for Racer X. Alex Masi also played for us, I think I saw that dude at NAMM last month. Sorry, nothing exciting.

I went to Berklee in the early 70's,
I had a small apartment not far from Berklee .
in my apartment building one floor above me Al Dimeola had a apartment also.
many nights after dinner we would hang out and play guitar together.

John Scofield lived just down the street from me and was closer to the Berklee building so many times in between classes I would go to his place and hang out till the next class time, talking music and gigs and listening to jazz.

And of course Pat Metheny was here too, I actually met him a year before he came up,
when he was going to university of Maimi. spend time with him and played together etc.

John S and Pat M and myself were also studying with MIck Goodrich too..

I was a student at GIT when Frank was a a student. He was a class ahead of me (classes started every 6 months). I remember the first time I heard him play. It was after school hours and he was jammin with a student group. I walked into the room during his solo. His playing was so melodic and flowing, not sweep picking but it sounded a lot like a good sax playing. He was playing an old pink Strat and it sounded great through the schools crappy amps. I asked someone if he was a teacher!

Scott was a teacher and my personal counsellor. Unfortunately I was so overwhelmed with all the info from all the different style classes I didn't take advantage of my time with him. If I could have been more focused I could have gotten a lot more out of that time.

Yea Scott was on another level for sure. He is really deep musically and pulls a lot of influences into his playing.
