from the New Real Book 3. For chord melody purposes. I do need them to be:

Something you'd probably do at your rest. gig
Something kinda simple (Im no chord melody expert)

To give you and idea of where Im at with it, I can get through:
Bye Bye Blackbird
Dont Blame Me
I Could Write A Book
My Romance

Just looking for ideas from the experts.

Does it have to be from the Real Book 3? You gonna make me go dig it up?

Autumn Leaves
Begin the Beguine
Body and Soul
Here's That Rainy Day
Don't Get Around Much, Anymore

There you go! Pretty sure they are all in one of your Real Books...

Good luck!

Body and Soul is wonderful, but a bit tricky for starting out. Ipanema, Gentle Rain, Satin Doll, Georgia, would all be fine for starting out in addition to Autumn Leaves the others JSeth lists.

I don't own Real Book 3, and I'm not sure where 1 & 2 are....

Some of my favorite jazz ballads, that I'd love to hear played if I was eating dinner at your restaurant gig:

If I Should Lose You
Infant Eyes
Lotus Blossom
Too Young To Go Steady
Peace

Strictly from Book Three, five I would recommend are:

The End of a Love Affair
Goodbye
Skylark
Over the Rainbow (popular with audiences)
Where or When

Dickie - if you want some serious inspiration for chord melody learnin' - check out these vids this guy has on his youtube channel:
http://www.youtube.com/user/TedGreeneArchives

If I had seen this 20 some years ago when I first got Ted's books I would have flipped my s**t! It's soo cool to see how he improvs this stuff with such hip harmony choices, voice-leading, etc... right off the cuff.
Just watching someone like Ted do this stuff so effortlessly is very inspiring.
