My lead singer is needing a new amp and is wanting a "lunchbox" style head.. 30wt minimum, but he'd prefer 50+ (currently playing a 300wt Tech21).

Basically needs a really good clean channel and a drive channel..... Tube or solid state.

In that price range, I would forget about the lunchbox requirement and check out a Fender Mustang head.

    Hey man!

I would say Night Train but it does not check your boxes perfectly.

I don't think what you want exists for that price range. 30 watts is gonna cost more and most lunch box amps are 20 watts or less. The Carvin v3m can be had used for under $400 and is 50 watts with a good clean channel. Probably the closest to what you are after.

So he wants a 50+ watt lunchbox head for under $300.. Not happening.

He may be able to find something used but it will likely have only one channel (he'll need to use pedals for dirt) and 50 watts probably won't happen.

50 watts for under 300 bucks?? Mmm tall order there. Check out local CL listings. Probably his best bet for finding a steal.

I would look at some of the lesser talked about Mesas...F series, etc.

Ultimately, he's going to need to either fork up some extra cash or be ok with 15-25 watts. Tweaker 40 might be an option too.

Traynor DH40H. Might cost more in the 500.00 range. Patrick from Sloan uses the 15W ones.

Yeah, I told him he was "pushing" the limits on that budget... But told him I'd check his options.

His current amp is about to crap out after 4 years with us and 5 years on the road. He's never owned a tube amp and thinks now is the time, but not sure he's ready for one and not sure he can find a good sounding one on that budget.

I had one of those (combo) about 10 years ago..... Loved it! Good suggestion, I'll look into this.

Used Egnater Rebel 20? Or maybe the Ibanez Tube Screamer head.

Orange Tiny Terror and Vox Night Train would be my first guess for 'Lunchbox' heads.
