The last time I regularly gigged with a Strat was around 1999. Since then I've slowly spun into the Telecaster camp and Teles have been my main guitars for the last 5 years solid. But I bought an 'E' Series Japanese Squier Strat a couple of years ago and decided when putting my rig together for a gig today that I's throw the Strat into the double gig bag with a Danocaster and give it a shot.

It was...odd. I was always so used to Strats, but I started the gig with the Strat and things were so different from my Teles. I kept knocking into the volume control and turning myself down accidentally. I found myself wandering around the 5-position looking for tones that worked within certain songs (and found 'em!). The neck profile (much like my long-gone '61) was really comfortable. I played all but the last two songs of my first set with the Strat, but when I switched off to the Dano, that neck profile felt kinda weird.

But tonally it sounded great. I'm thinking the Dano/Strat guitar combo is going to be what I use going forward, since they both sounded really good for what I used them for. But tossing myself back into the deep end as far as Strats go was pretty disconcerting. I'm sure I'll adjust.

Adjusting to the neck profile will become faster and faster.
Im switching between a 23.5 inch / very narrow nut, 25 inch with a tree as a neck, and a very slim 25.5 inch.
Matter of seconds now before I forget Im playing a different neck.

I'll never understand the absurdly placed volume knob, and those makers that copy it.

Why not get a Nashville configuration ;) Apart from whammy action best of both worlds. Just my two cents. I have Strats and Telecasters and both have their place. No real issues changing between. Glad it has inspired you and made you think differently though! All good. Enjoy.

I tried going back to a Strat recently...it's not working out very well.

I have recently returned to strats from years of tele. It took me a few weeks to stop accidentally turning down the volume. I threw a blender pot in the strat and now I can get some tele tones. I could be happy with either, but for now I am back in Stratland.

I'd only move it slightly, and probably to a place that people who complain about it even less. I love Jeff Beck's volume knob work lately, and I'd love to be able to pull that off. But I think to do it, it helps to be less than religious about the volume knob placement and trem bar shape.

I still love playing both...bring them to every gig and it's often whichever one is speaking to me I grab for that set. Very different guitars but they are both awesome.

Strats are cool. I’d been without one for several years, picked up a lightly battered MIM FSR off Reverb as a mod platform. Ended up just changing the strings, decking the bridge and playing the thing.

Just bought my first Strat since 1985, last Saturday, a new Am Pro. First new guitar since 1994.

You get to do volumeswells with your pinky!
Put a Rubber ring underneath it if you keep hitting it unintended.

That volume knob placement is ideal for me. I'm constantly riding it with my pinky.

As far as I'm concerned, complaining about the volume knob placement falls in the same territory as complaining about the middle pickup being in the way when strumming, i.e. it's weird. If this guy can handle it, so can you:

Welcome back to the Strat! Personally, I find Strats work best for me; I love the tones and the ergonomics.

I have gotten so used to the position of the volume control that I find myself hunting for it with other guitars.

The Strat volume knob was made for the little finger.
    Embrace it...be the Strat.

A few weeks ago I tried to convert back....no go. I started with a strat in 93...but it's probably been 15 years or so since I played one regularly. I ended up using a tele and a jr instead....

Actually my favorite Strat is my San Dimas...do Superstrats count?
