Anyone know where I can buy one?
AND, would an Avatar cab sound good with one?
Where are you? Guitar Resurrection (http://www.guitarrez.com) in Austin, TX has one. I (and a few others) think the Bogner cabs are great.
I have a minty XTC Classic for sale for $2800 plus shippinig (Cont US only) send me an e-mail to rbone100 at yahoo dot com. Check my feedback on ebay I have sold several high end amps and guitars.
Buy Ralphie's Classic, Bro!!!
That's the one!!
You'll pay more than that for a 101B and the Classic is twice the amp!
Please explain how the Classic is twice the amp. I have heard that you loose some features, do you know which ones?
I have owned 2 101B's - NEVER again!
I own two 100B's and a Classic now.
The Classic does not have the dual pres controls.
It does however have MUCH superior tone, more "open", not as mid-spiked, and no carpet in front of cabinet muffled tone! The Classic also has a better clean channel.
I would say (for me), the Classic is even better than the 100B!
If you have any questions, pm me... I'll give you my phone #.
Whoa......hold on a sec there Keith.
I find it about 50:50 guys who like the Classic (or 100) versus guys who like the 101b.
I have sold XTC's since 1994 and I own and prefer the 101b. That's the amp that happens to work for me....my attack....my style etc....just like the Classic works best for you.
I wouldn't say one is better than the other, but arexjay needs someone to qualify his needs properly and then recommend the *right* amp for him.
Bump for Stu here.....I've purchased a Dr. Z and a Bad Cat from him and he's well qualified to help someone make a decision. I definitely would not get bogged (pun) down in the better/worse argument.
okay well basically, I'm looking for versatility. I play in a hardcore/metal band, an lame obscure cover band, and a classic rock cover band. This amp seems to be able to cover most of that just with its different levels of dirt alone. I'm planning on getting a Zendrive or ZIM or something of the like to go with it for some low gain I think, and have modulation covered with pedals. Anything else you think you need to know? I'm open to a lot of suggestions of other amps because I don't really wanna spend so much on this.
theres a 101b in the emporium ... just a heads up.
Listen to Stu..he knows his sh*t. Got my Shiva from him.
The way I see it, the Ecstasy is an amp of compromises. If you get the 101b you have a compromised clean channel. If you get the Classic you have a compromised red channel.
I figure i can always add gain, but i cant make my clean channel better. But then again, its a $500 compromise.
Hmmmm.... Good input Stu, but I disagree..Of course it's subjective, both Bogners are great, I just prefer the Classic hands down.
A used MINT Classic for 2800.00?
That's my suggestion!
But, what do I know?!
It's now listed on ebay. I am willing to take it off if someone from TGP or HCAF wants it. I would like to sell it before my band leaves to play in Key West, FL in a few weeks.
I own both. My Classic has the gain mod on the red channel that Reinhold does, so it's not quite a fair comparison. I agree that $2800 for a sweet clean Classic is a screamin' deal. I would seriously doubt if you could find a used 101B for much less.
If it comes down to <$500 difference, I'd go Classic everytime.
I run it through an Avatar 2x12 with V30's. Not as great sounding as my Bogner 4x12 (with 2 speakers gone and ported), but I wouldn't expect it to.
I just bought a Bogner 101B on eBay for $2175 last weekend, there were others not selling for $2300. I'm getting to know it now.
This is my first post , hello everybody. I've been on HC as stillakid for over 4 years and have lurked here for awhile
I have a 101 A and think that the 6l6 help the cleans and no compromise with the red/blue. I had a 101B FWIW and the 101A is 10x better
I'm getting Bogner GAS, but damn I either gotta sell something, save for a while, or a combination of the two.
What is the RED channel mod on the XTC C??
