I was wondering, what do you think of Gold hardware on a stratocaster???

I feel like most prefer the chrome look over the gold. I really really wanted to put a gold bridge on my sunburst strat, but I feel that I've changed my mind... chrome looks really good~~~ =)

I'd happily trade the gold hardware on my '99 CU22AP for nickel

I think it looks cool when it gets all nasty.

Nickel or Chrome. Gold tarnishes too easily and is high maintenance.

Just like strings, gold hardware corrosion is related to body chemistry and factors like diet. If you kill your strings chances are you'll melt GH also. While GH tends to wear, if you are easy on strings/regular hardware GH will last longer.

I have a 335 that with the brown finish looks great.
It is the newer Gold stuff that doesn't tarnish.
I dpn't care for gold but it works on this particular guitar.

Never on a Strat for me though.

I don't like gold or black hardware because I always see used guitars with black or gold hardware and half the bridge is silver where the finish rubbed off and it looks like crap.

rarely do I like Gold hardware on a guitar...only on certain colors & certain guitars. Usually reminds me of Freddie the Pimp.

Even if it DOES look good, usually it's a pain in the butt. I will never intentionally order a guitar w/ gold hardware if I am spec'ing one for a build . Nickel is where I'm at... pretty much across the board. Now some hybrid combinations can look cool..

I like the look of gold hardware. Gold/black, gold/walnut, gold/wine red are all great combos in my eye :D

I'm with the folks opining that it depends on the guitar. Personally, I find gold goes well with natural finishes and rockabilly. Here are two examples from my small personal collection.

Well I sure wish my SRV didn't have gold hardware.

I started a similar thread, here.

It's funny, I think black hardware looks the best. It has a cool, utilitarian vibe to it that I find comforting. Chrome is okay but kinda' bland. With certain combinations gold looks great too.

Like the others who said it, I like it on certain guitars. On a strat; no. On a Les Paul Custom Black Beauty; yes. I changed the chrome hardware on my aztec gold (amber) Hamer Special FM to gold and it looks much better.

I agree except I love Mary Kaye strats. There is no guitar quite so beautiful as a Les Paul Custom in black with slightly faded gold hardware.

Look at a Les Paul Black Beauty. The gold looks stunning when new, but doesn't ever stay that way. Give me chrome or nickel.
