    I'm supposed to pick up a mid/late 90's glossy red Gibson LP Jr. doublecut with 2 P90's, 2, volume, 2 tone, 3 way switch in great condition with HSC for $500.

    Did I do good?

    good score

    btw, that is a 2001 based solely on the fret inlays and lack of binding

    Good deal. Actually, given that you got a 2001 that's a GREAT deal. I used to have one of those. Quality issues up the wazoo (it more or less fell apart in my hands on stage more than once) but when the bugs were worked out it felt great and sounded great. I think I sold mine (again, the newer less desirable one) for $550.

    Thanks for the info and comments, guys. I'll be snagging it up tomorrow!

    The buyer said it hasn't been played in around 4 years and needs a setup. Hopefully it doesn't fall apart in my hands!

    Did I say "fall apart?" Whoops, I meant "explode."

    The issues were pretty simple though. The threading on the screws that hold the pickups down was really thin and stripped the wood pretty easily. Thanks to the spring there for tension, that caused my pickup to push up onto my strings while I was trying to play.

    Also, mine came with 5 Gibson tuners and 1 Grover. This is probably more the fault of GC than it was anyone else, and nobody there ever owned up to it, but the Grover was on my high E and just as I was finishing a face melter one night the gear fell apart and the string lost all tension immediately. Sounded like a robot powering down, which in hindsight was probably a pretty cool effect... but not exactly what I was shooting for (not to mention completely horrifying until I figured out what exactly when wrong in the first place).

    Fret ends needed to be filed down too, and the fingerboard edges were sharp as a razor so that was all taken care of right when I got it as well.

    Again, though, that was the Faded series, and yours is probably not. Outside of those quirks I loved that guitar. It was the last new Gibson I'll ever buy though...

    Btw, if it's glossy, as it appears to be, make sure you get some hum with it turned up-- Gibson made a bunch of different soapbar guitars prior to the fadeds, and some have P-100's rather than P-90's.

    Certainly a fair price & another vote for giving the P100's a shot.

    buy it, use the P100s for a while, then trade them to someone for some P90's.

    Junior = 1 P-90

    Special = 2 P-90s.

    The seller just got back to me with the serial number and it turns out that its a 1999 model. How does this affect it (besides making it 2 years older than we had previously thought it was)?

    With those, the older ones are worth more than the newer ones from the faded series. Beyond that, I don't think anything really varies between years - it's all about condition at that point.

    I could be wrong, but back after I sold mine and started regretting it I started looking at maybe getting another, that was the trend I saw.

    What are the faded series Double Cuts like? Can't find much info on them. Any idea how long they were made (I assume that they are out of production) and what they sold for .....

    Played a TV yellow one the other day which was quite nice.
