I need to get a Les Paul setup by a pro, but don't know a good tech. Any recommendations? Preferably in SF or south down the peninsula to San Jose.

    Thanks for any recommendations

Gary Brawer. He's done work for Joe Satriani among others, I've never heard a bad thing about him.

Turnaround time is long though - very popular guy. Gary's at "Real Guitars" in SF.

I like Larry Cragg in San Rafael - 415-453-3336. He's Neil Young's guitar tech, and he techs for guys like Santana and Terry Hagerty. Nobody better, IMHO.

Greg Hanning does excellent work with a fast turnaround. He's on the peninsula, used to tech for John Lee Hooker.

I second Gryphon. I've had a few guitars (a 335, 2 Strats, a Martin) setup there and was always satisfied.

Can't speak to the wealth of world-class talent outside of S.F., but in the city: Brawer. From the mundane to the insane, he and his folks deliver perfection. His A-list cust's go far beyond Satriani, and for good reason.

The 5th String in Berkeley has a great tech. His policy is that if he didn't do what he told you he'd do, then he doesn't charge you.

Gary Brawer was nice when I met him. My buddy was really happy after getting his Strat plek'd at Gary's shop. Another friend really liked the work that Keith Holland in Los Gatos did. Has anyone used Dave Tupper in Palo Alto?
