I've been experimenting with slide lately and I really like it. I don't want to use my new Strat to practice slide, though. What I'd really like is a cheaper P-90 guitar that I can use that is "economical." Meaning around 200-500 bucks if possible. I was looking at a Melody Maker at Sweetwater's site but that is over my budget. Can any of you slide players make a few suggestions? Also, what is your ideal action you use? Thanks!

If you want to save some money and still get something decent, I'd recommend this SX Liquid from Rondo. http://www.rondomusic.com/liquidrn3tsstop.html

Used Epiphones aren't a bad choice either.

I use a modified SG Jr. copy from the 70's for slide.

Yes, this would be a great choice. Also, any of the recent Melody Makers that have P90's would be cool too.

Turn up the gain, and turn down the tone pot on your bridge pickup, and let 'er rip!

PRS SE Singlecut with P90s would be my choice. Or one of those MIM teles with the P90s.

    Happy hunting.

Having used SGs for slide for years, I recently bought a Fender Cabronita Thinline Tele fitted with Filtertrons, and it's the best guitar I've had for slide. Strung with 11s, jack the action up a bit

A bunch in the price range to choose from. Agile makes a great product, if your lucky to find a DC Special, and as mentioned the Fender MIM Tele with P-90's would be a fun one. Lots out there, should keep you busy for a while.

    Good luck with your quest...

My son bought a Fender Blacktop Jaguar P90 for about $400 new.
He plays slide with it. Sounds killer.

Here's my solution to that, the PRS SE Soapbar II - you should try to find a Reverend w/P90's to play as well, and of course buy used if you can find one. I found this used SE Soapbar II in a local store for just $299.00 - it followed me home.
