CLIP: My carefully curated AX8 core tones for gigs (completely dry) vs. Synergy SYN-30 built in clean, VAI broken and rock tones DI out / silent recording. As mentioned, the VAI is not my last stop on the module train and I'm looking for slightly different tones. Ask me which sounds better in the room and which is more fun to play and easier to dial in!

Quick wanking in the room, iPhone video. Fan above adds some warble, but you get the idea. This is moderately loud for me (probably a little under gig level). In other situations it would be considered shut the f*** up levels :)
9 o'clock on the built in clean volume, so TONS more room to go...

    Goodbye digital, hello Synergy...
Digital gear has been incredibly effective for me over the last few years even up to and including a great gig last night.
Today I spent hours going head to head between my new Synergy 30 combo built in clean, VAI module with Channel A set to broken up Bassman tones, Channel 2 set to rock lead gain tones and even completely dry in the room it's no contest.
Most importantly, using the cab simulated DI out into my FRFR(s) I still highly prefer the tone AND feel AND vibe of the SYN-30 with module.
The DI clean tones are really close, the broken up tones go to the SYN-30 by a hair, the rock tones destroy on the Synergy module DI... simply no contest.

I tried the AX8 as virtual pedalboard into clean channel and it's nice. A tad bit brash and sterile.
I tried the AX8 as preamp into FX return; definitely useable even with both power amp and cab sims off, but not even close to just using the damn amp as it was intended.

I do enjoy use some choice FX very sparingly at a gig to spice things up:
Chorus + Rhythmic delay for clean rhythm or broken up Edge type stuff
    Fat Rotary sounds for accent
Trem for cool passages of songs

I'm considering some pedals in the loop but honestly I may just grab a simple always on delay or light Reverb that takes a 9v battery, put it in the loop and be done: 3 channel amp + guitar volume control.

I'll stick around to offer my insights whenever required :)
    XO Gasp100 :drink

Cool to hear! And I know you’ve been through a shische-ton of digital and analog gear through the years.

My little brother has a Synergy head and Vai module on the way. Should be here next week. I think he’s going to dig it.

    Goodbye thread or clever infomercial?

Looks like the emporium thread appeared first.

When I tried the Vai module; I noticed a disconnect. A....latency, if you will when playing.
