Got it bad for the Jimmy Page CA LP...

:(

I have it bad.

2 weeks ago or so, I played a Jimmy Page LP CA at the Guitar Center. It was freakin' phenomenal. Most perfect lester I ever played. Sound, feel, mojo, weight, looks... it was all there. I played it through a Vox Top Boost, with the ceramaic speakers, and it was incredible.

I can't get the thing out of my head... so I am now going to sell two other Les Pauls (both excellent ones) to get one. Tell me, am I just nuts?

Anybody out there bought a Jimmy Page CA and regret it?

Jones'n for one big time as well. What did you like about it? What was the neck like? Sounds? Frets? I'm hoping your answers will indicate that those features are different than my perferences! Thanks, AC

I have one that I bought from a Gear Page member.

When I first received it I did not like it all. It took some time and it's now my main guitar. The neck was the biggest adjustment, it really is Ibanez Wizard thick. My R8 and R4 have very big necks, even the PRS wide thin seems big compared to the JP.

I am still not sure about the out of phase middle position, might have that changed yet, even thought it does make for a very versatile guitar if you blend the volumes. I do like the coil splitter on the bridge, it is too bright with the tone and volume on 10, but if you back the controls off it is very usefull.

The CA finish is very different. Took a bit, but now I find my R8 looks fake compared to the CA finish. The pickups are not as hot as the BB2 and BB3 in my '02 R8 and do not have the harsh top end either.

Fueling the fire.....

The neck felt perfect - very natural feel for me. The shape of it did not have too much meat under my thumb - so it's defintely more V shaped than C shaped. How it was bound felt different too. It was just very easy to play. I wish I could've studied it more and played it less. But it really like being played. Not like a 60's neck, and not like a 50's. It felt very natural at each end of the neck for how your hand would hold it playing the neck. Which makes me wonder if Jimmy shaved it down himself. Very good neck. Not the little R9 frets either - this is bigger fret wire (it sure felt bigger). Playing was pretty effortless, and it had 10 guage strings, and wasn't setup particularly low. Just a natural good feel.

The guitar had this natural "aaah" vowel singing sound to it, and that was there in every note. It was a good combination, having that neck mass with the long-tenon. Made some very sweet sounds.

I played some real slow stuff that just sounded amazing. So the pickups were really good too. And, of course, the grovers must have contributed to that as well. Somebody commented that the guitar sounded like Robert Plant singing those notes. I thought it did too - and that part was amazing. You had to wonder about that one.

I really liked the finish, and for that matter the neck inlays. They were the most authentic looking ones I've seen yet. But the finish looked like an old guitar, just not beat to death. Felt very good, and it had the right mojo. Made you want to play it much more than look at it.

Weight was perfect.

I had to wonder if this wasn't the closest to a real deal burst you could get sound wise. It's the best les paul I've played (though I never played a real '59).

Hopefully I named off 20 things you would hate...:p

Played one last week through a 50wt plexi reissue and 2 marshall
8x10 cabs.
Sounded like every great guitar record from the 70's.
I love the neck but i like thin necks.

Currently working on "the pitch" to the wife on buying one.

I would love to own one if for no other reason than I love me some Jimmy Page, but I can't get it on with tiny necks. I need baseball bat necks to even play right due to an ingury I sustained a few years ago.

I haven't played one, but being a Jimmy Page freak, I really want one too. This thread isn't helping.:) I just can't get myself to pay $5000.00 for a guitar that isn't custom made to my specs.

Now if someone wanted to trade for a Prs Santana 1 I have, that would be a different story.:)

I have a Thorn Singlecut on order, but the Jimmy Page model is always in the back of my mind.

Someday......

That's because you're a smart man. :dude

I bet Pagey can't bring himself to pay 5k for a guitar that isn't built to his specs either. Then again, at this point in his life...people probably just give him guitars :)

Thanks!

I found it on ebay - from Vince, who must be one of the best online guitar salesmen of all times. He has sold tons of custom shop stuff, with all top notch feedback. I sat drooling looking at the guitars that people praised him on in his feedback profile. WOWSA.

I like that this one really looks like Jimmy's no 1, and Vince emailed me more info, and gave his own impressions of the guitar.

Man, there will be some sleepless anxious nights headin' my way. This is the guitar of my dreams.

Here's all I have til it comes - PICTURES:

Anyone here seen the Edwards/ESP JP aged replica? Looks great to me and they seem to go for around $1K. I have an Edwards Standard and it is a great guitar.
