got to see the Count Basie Band. so serious

    if there is a tighter band i haven't heard it. would be so nice to go back to the day where bands like this were commonplace. 5 trumpets, 4 bones, 5 saxes.
    freddie greens post was aptly handled by a guy with a great big gibson L5 or so. you could imagine how frank sinatra would have sounded in front....and he played alot with that band. always in the pocket.

    Sounds like a great show. I've often said that nothing beats a tight horn section. :cool:

    They played at a college I was attending for a an additional degree. As I was an "Adult" student money was VERY tight. Knowing that Mercer had past and having been burned by rock bands flogging their act well past their sell by I decided to pass. Sound like that was a dumb move on my part!. Glad to hear the soul n spirit are still there.

    PS that is a horn section! Not 3 guys in kaki's playing Motown tunes for Cougars ...lol
