1. The Gear Page is run by musicians for musicians. We listen, we learn and if we misstep we are not afraid to do the right thing. We proposed some changes to the Emporiums. Based on feedback from members, we have decided to not go ahead with those changes. However, it has also highlighted that we need some community input into what is working and what is not working for members here. Primarily focused on the Emporiums, we'd like input on your thoughts about TGP and how things work in the Emporiums for you and how you'd improve them. The discussion thread on the is here!

I see she’s taking heat for being Hispanic, and doing a tribute to Black music...

    Silly.

Music is the one common language, for everyone.

It should be, in the best of all possible worlds, the language that transcends every cultural boundary. That being said, people are, how do I put this nicely...ignorant and fairly stupid collectively. Mob mentality seems to prevail, for the benefit of no one.

I think it was because it was a tribute to Motown, and her sound has nothing in common with Motown.

I hear she got that gig after both Metallica and Keith Urban turned it down.

I was surprised only because she’s not known as a great singer.

    Great dancer, brilliant showmanship.

But if it was cool with Berry Gordy, and Smokey...

I thought she did a great job.

What music is being shoved down your throat? And...how?
The Grammys are "a disservice to music" how? Seems to me The Grammys are more of a service to music. Where else can you see Cardi B, Dolly Parton, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Brandi Carlile et. al. on one stage in prime time?
    She is...
"Mob mentality" meaning a lot of people who like the same music? Is someone making them like it?

I would turn the casuality: Overly produced, with nonsensical lyrics, slipstreamed harmonics, drum machined and sound bank sculpted instrument imitations, product placing coreography and a botoxed and surgically reshaped performer = some big $ marketing for some crappy product = popular.

It's been long since music was about music; nowdays it's all about aligning with the market for some product - be it cars, fashion, makeup, betting, beverages or whatever. Heck: Even the rappers have sold out to corporate sponsoring.

It seemed to me that there were WAY more musical performances this year than in previous years. They really didn't give that many awards out during the show...

However, I feel like some of you guys are just haters. Maybe they need to add a Savoy Brown tribute for youse next year?

Simply that its ubiquitous. Without even having to search these things out, just by existing, these names cross your path. They're constant all over media in some shape or form. Virtually unavoidable really if you're alive.

I don't need to tell you this. There's something like 3 or 4 companies that sell you every TV show, movie, record, news, smart phone, computer, toys, games, shoes, breakfast cereal, vacation resort....
and all their pop 'artists' get integrated in all of it. They call it 'synergy', 'vertical integration', 'all those sh**heads out there'll buy any kinda crap we feed them', etc, lol

Anyone over ten years of age has absolutely no reason to watch the Grammys.

No, I get it and no offense taken. I also saw my niece's win as maybe more legit than the more popular categories because it's not as likely to be tainted by social/political agendas.
I've actually considered joining the Academy and becoming a voting member, at least to get a clue as to how the machine and process works, but I don't know if there's any other benefit for me besides the potential to satisfy my curiosity.

That's because she put in her time when she was young. Developed chops the old fashioned way. Practice.
Lady Gag and Alicia Keys did too.

The only reason why he won was the statement the video makes goes along with the theme these days. It's a absolutely brilliant video. The song all by itself sucks pretty bad. It really needs the visual. You almost never hear the song on the radio.
I think it was pretty cool that he didn't bother showing up. Even turned down a chance at performing.

I don't know. He plays by his rules.
I just think it's kinda badass to get that kind of recognition and just blow it off.
