Anyone recommend a marshall amp in the 20-30w range in a 1x12. I was reading & listening to a thread about Aubry Freed's Cry of love and loved his strat into marshall tone. Would like to get that tone with my Relic and a marshall in a small package.:rockinAnyone? Thanks.

The bonus is that they're still cheap.

Reinhardt 18 or it's big brother the Titan. Two Marshally flavors in one tight package.

Marshall 4001 Studio 15. One 12" Celestion Vintage 30, two 6V6s, 18W. You can also plug the speaker into the headphone jack which allows you to crank the amp and get great distortion at bedroom-level volume.

They were made during the late eighties, and seem to go for around $1000 on eBay.

I visited my family in NC this year for the first time in 9 years. I went to my brother's house and he had one of these sitting in his garage. He didn't use it anymore so he asked me to sell it for him.
I got to play with it for a couple of weeks before it sold.
    GREAT Amp.

I've had my JCM800 1x12 combo for about 15 years and love it. It's 50 watts but it has a master volume that works great. Great Marshall tone at lower volumes. Not "Marshall Like" tones but real Marshall tones.

Not trying to be nitpicky, but it's Audley. As for the amps, what sort of price range were you looking at. Some good suggestions have been mentioned(i.e. Reinhardt 18 and Titan, etc...) if they were in the budget you had in mind.

I'd try to find one of the 50w master volume JMP or JCM800 combos...

    that 800 combo is interesting

    how loud can it get?
can it hold it's own jamming without being mic'ed?

The JCM800 MV will kill you, on "2."

The Studio 15 is OK, but is about like a Deluxe - if you need cleaner headroom or like a nice pick attack at stage volumes, it won't do that.

If you can find one, look into a JTM-30.

I have some info on what Audley used in an e-mail somewhere - I'll try to dig it up. I asked a friend who asked Audley directly at my request, and then sent me his response. I love Audley's sound on the Cry of Love CD's! Check back later...

    tim,

    here's what Audley said...

"'73 Marshall Super Lead on 1st one, Fender Tonemaster, Matchless HC 30, Naylor combo and Bogner Exctasy best I can remember. All borrowed but the Fender!! I still have it, probably gonna sell it."

    .... so there ya go!

Um yeah. A 50w Marshall is loud. Even in combo form it will melt your face.

I have one of these. Converted by a fellow forumite to run on EL-34's. It sounds fantastic but so much better through a 2x12 cabinet. This combo is pretty small and to my ears, sounds boxy on it's own. Regardless, it is a great sounding rock amp. I've been toying with selling it if anyone is interested.
