I think he is definitely the greatest to ever play on a pop tune.
I don't disparage pop--I wish more talented bands would get over themselves and do more pop.

I voted for the Police, based on sales, and concert tour incomes. But I'm not sure if they made any more than Cream did.
As far as my musical influences, I would have voted for ELP, with Cream a close second.
Saw ELP in concert years ago.
Greg Lake was an amazing vocalist, bass player and composer.
Emerson was on a whole different level, with his keyboard playing, and the introduction of the Moog.

These days, The Winery Dogs are my favorite still-active trio.

it seems like splitting hairs to debate ELP, The Jimi Hendrix Experience and other classic rock trios that have already been debated to death so i'll just go with The Minute Men.
