I've had this discussion many times with fellow guitar buddys. What's your top 5 greatest. Any genre, it doesn't matter. Just albums you think have killer tones from first song to last.

My 5: in no particular order.

    The Beano Album
    Van Halen I
    In Step
    Electric Ladyland
    Jeff Becks Guitar Shop

gotta go with killer songs over killer tones, tones are good but songs are what makes music my passion

hendrix - band of gypsys (legendary recording of jimi going crazy)
black sabbath - s/t / vol.4 (tie for their best)
dead meadow - old growth (the devotee cult fans say its the worst ?)
tool - lateralus (the guitar work on this is so brilliant, and so perfect it's like it's not there, it's like adam jones tapped into the void)
pink floyd - DSOTM (solo work on this is legendary, and this album is nothing short of a modern masterpiece, that stands up to any classical composer's greatest works in terms of sheer perfection and vision)

Tom Petty - Wildflowers (maybe not the band's most rockin' record but the guitar work is simply perfect)
    T.Rex - The Slider
The Black Keys - Rubber Factory/Thickfreakness
My Morning Jacket - Evil Urges
    Wilco - Sky Blue Sky
    Blind Faith - Blind Faith

A few that have been an enormous influence on my playing.

Bass Desires - first cd w/ Sco and Friz.
John Scofield - Grace Under Pressure - more Sco and Friz.
John Abercrombie - Night - Organ trio of the future.
John Abercrombie - Getting There - Awesome playing, writing, and sonics
Ronald Shannon Jackson - Barbecue Dog - Vernon Reid before Living Colour fame, in a free-jazz, big(ish) band environment.
Terje Rypdal - What Comes After - Terje and Frisell were huge influences on me buy and using a volume pedal in my playing. Terje is huge.

So many more, so little time and such mediocre typing skills.
