It seems Gibson is now in the crosshairs of the US DOJ. Understandable, as whenever I or anyone *I* know thinks of the biggest threats the US DOJ should be addressing, Gibson is on the top of the list. It certainly merits raids by SWAT-type teams of Federal Marshals armed with automatic weapons. Right? I mean, everyone knows those so-called "luthier" groups are dangerous people, and clear and present threats to National Security.

See this statement from Gibson on their website: http://www.gibson.com/absolutenm/templates/FeatureTemplatePressRelease.aspx?articleid=1340&zoneid=6

I wonder if the TSA, FBI, State Police, etc will begin stopping traveling musicians, or even raiding private individuals' homes and seizing "suspicious" or "undocumented" guitars? Will we need a "carry permit" for each guitar certifying it meets Federal guidelines?

    Just...Wow.

Better yet just don't violate the CITES agreement! You don't need that Brazilian Rosewood!

It makes you wonder what provoked this in the first place. I know that Gibson has been embattled financially for the last couple of years and this is very dangerous for the future of the company. Say what you want about Henry, but the company has been producing some of the best guitars they ever have under this duress. I really feel for the employees and the brand itself.

I say good luck to Henry for all of us Gibson Fans. I hope they make it through this mess

And if Gibson has not broken CITES then they will be OK. If they did it is their tough ****.

What, you haven't heard that CITES explicitly repealed the 4th Amendment and we're now all subject to random cavity searches and seizure of our personal possessions?

Fox News is reporting that Eric Holder is requesting that Congress pass new legislation which would require middle-aged males to obtain a permit from their local municipalities in order to play the Blues - even for personal enjoyment in their own homes!

B.S. I'm sure they had a warrant. If not, there's no case unless it was all in plain sight.

Just what Gibson needed, another excuse to raise their prices. For all we know Henry J could have hired actors to play the part of the Feds and noone would be the wiser.

The more I have read on the this the less it appears to be about protected wood issue per se and more it appears to have been an inadvertent keep jobs in India aspect that was wrapped into the accord.

Dude, who brought up the tea party?

I'm glad that there are laws preventing the destruction of old growth endangered forests, the lungs of the world. If someone violates the law or treaties, I have no sympathy.
