This is such a great tune used to play all the time on the radio station I'd fall asleep/wake up to on the old Sony Dream Machine.
I love the sound of that Vox twelve string. Electric twelves rule!
I couldn't hear it in that video. All I heard was the Strat.
I remember that song now that I heard it again. Too bad you can't make out the lyrics. His enunciation is not very good. I all got was what sounded like Saturday morn.
I was in a cover band that did that song. It’s a blast to play.
I suggested this song for our song list this week. I’m thinking it will go over well - does anyone else still play this to a good reaction?
I think it's a good one to transition to if you have some dance floor action. One of the bands I am in do it and it's not really a dance floor starter but it will keep one going.
Fun fact. Joe Satriani played for The Greg Kihn band in the eighties. Apparently it is embarrassing to JS and he rarely mentions it. I always liked the Breakup Song and the one that got a lot of MTV play, Jeopardy I think it was.
Same feeling here. Fun to play, not a big crowd reaction either way, but is danceable.
Yeah, the promo music videos for Breakup Song & Jeopardy were both in steady rotation on MTV back in the day. I never found Jeopardy of much interest or appeal, although it did offer a short reprieve from the synth/keys/drum machine-heavy music vids that permeated the channel 24/7. Breakup Song was (remains) a much better tune imo.
Saw him live in august of 1984, they were the headliners for our college’s opening of school thing, originally we had some other band booked, but they ended up having some huge hit earlier in the year, so their price skyrocketed, so we got Greg Kihn, it was a pretty good concert as I remember. I always wondered if Satch was on that tour w/ him, I need to look it up!
My college roommate loved this song!
Appears that I missed Satch by a year:
This was the song I loved hearing my senior year in HS in my car on the radio:
This is the song that I can't get away from.
I think it's one of the very first songs I learned to play. Subbed in a band about 2 years ago and it was on their list. Still knew how to play it pretty much. Still hear it all the time (WAY TOO MUCH) on the radio. I don't know what the deal is. You'd think it was a meme or something.
It's an OK song but it's kind of just, you know, a one-hit wonder (or two hit wonder though no one remembers Jeopardy and I never hear that one played anymore, but it was a bigger hit at the time).
I like the song and don't mind playing it, I could go without hearing it for a very long time at this point.
every cover band i've been in played this tune to death
always seemed like the drummer's favorite
I haven't heard that song in a looooong time.
It's buried down there in the mix to be sure, but I heard it peek through once or twice.
I agree. My band has been playing it for a number of years and it goes over quite well.
Here's some Joe with Greg Kihn.
