What do you think about them? I just picked one up. Plays nice, looks great. Will need better tuners.

tuners are no issue on mine, the wiring harness & switches/pots are cheap junk, that would be a more primary upgrade imo based on my experience w/ them. it's a very high quality guitar if you find a nice one.

I bought one used here on TGP. It came with a complete wiring upgrade, green pickguard, TV Jones Filtertrons with Gretsch pickup rings and a tweed hardshell case.
    Plays and sounds great.

yup, the TV Jones harness & TVTron Plus pickups turned it from a good guitar into a great one.

+1 - I dont' own a 5120 - but do own quite a few Gretsch's. TV Jones is the bomb for Gretsch pickups. Can't go wrong there! Congrats on your new guitar!

I have a 5120, threw a GFS Nashville Retrotron and a spare set of Grover tuners on it. Neat guitar.

For me it was a "gateway guitar".

It spurred me to buy a higher quality Gretsch 6118, and I don't really ever play it now.

Yeah, it definetly could be a gateway. Its a nice option for those that dont want to throw $2000 on a real one, thats just overkill for a lot of people. It was my first hollowbody and someday would like to have an upgrade but for now it does what I need it to do.
