I was playing around with Google Trends today and thought I'd compare the overdrives below:

Tubescreamer
OCD
SD-1
Barber LTD
Tim/Timmy

And the chart looked like this:

Can you guess which colour is which overdrive???

While I was looking at the results, it also amazed me how many people searched "Boss tubescreamer" (25th percentile), whereas the highest searches were "Ibanez tubescreamer" (100th percentile) - Maxon didn't even get a look in.

I was a little taken aback by the results, but you have to remember that the majority of searches would be conducted by non-TGP members (I used something like the Walrus Audio Voyager, and it barely registered, neither too did the Honey Bee). I always thought the big 3 would be tubescreamer, SD-1 and OCD - just the level of the OCD was shocking!

Hey mike, yeah this was an issue I was thinking about so I made sure the search terms were:

Tubescreamer
Barber LTD
Fulltone OCD
Paul Cochrane Tim AND Timmy
Boss SD-1

This does bias Barber over Tim/Timmy, because people searching for the LTD, LTD silver, LTD SR etc all register as searching for "Barber LTD" - same for tubescreamer, although the major search was Ibanez Tubescreamer.

And wording does matter, so compare the results for Paul Cochrane Tim, Paul Cochrane Tim, Timmy Pedal, Paul C Timmy, Paul C Tim:

But even using Timmy pedal, it gives the same results vs the tubescreamer:

So I agree the results are not perfect, but certainly indicative.
