    SQUEAL!!!!

For the first time got to play really loud with the above equipment and found out that the bridge pu squeals like a pig at the slaughter house. The neck pickup doesn't. At the same time, I love how I can easily coax harmonic feedback and endless sustain. What should I do? Do I

    1) get the pickup potted/ rewound
    2) dump the pickups and get matched PAF replicas (unpotted) with the
    possibility of dealing with microphonics
    3) dump the pickups and get matched potted PAF style pickups
    4) just dump the bridge pu

Would love to hear if microphonics is a problem on unpotted replicas e.g. throbaks etc...

You should follow standard Gear Page protocol and send me the guitar. I'll send it right back as soon as I get it straightened out.

    Get the PU potted.
Others may disagree but if the PU is usless as is then what's the harm.
I used to ALWAYS wax dip my PUs (many T-Tops) and I loved them afterwards.

I had a huge squealing problem with a '95 McCarty I used to have. It made me sell the guitar.

Definitely not selling the guitar! Why sell the guitar if the problem lies in the pickup? Isn't that like selling a nice car because of a flat tire?

Ok so seriously considering potting. How come I've never heard people complain about microphonic PAFs or the many replicas out there that are not potted? What if I wanted more output from the bridge. Would it be stupid to have the pickup rewound AND potted rather than just buying a replacement?

If you are going to that length, (rewinding and potting) I say just pull the pickup and order up a new one from one of the many talented folks making pickups. Get an already potted WCR Darkburst or Motor City 2nd Degree Blackbelt and then rock onward...

Does WCR / Motor City use wax potting?

I'm looking into trying a new set. Going to take my chances and try unpotted first though.
