Hi,

Are they any neck issues with using guitar wall hangers? Also, any recommendations on a certain brand....The wife wants to use my guitars as decorations and if she likes the look, I can get more:p

I use Hercules. Installed them almost two years ago and I've never had an issue. I hang my R9 and both of my Jimmy Page Les Pauls. There will def be like two or three guys that tell you otherwise, but I've never had a problem.

Most shops hang guitars on walls and some shops have those same guitars on the walls for many years. Only seems to be an issue when the guitars are Nitro and react with the hanger material which causes those discolored spots around the neck. Also, make sure you don't hang any guitars directly near a vent as the heat and AC during different parts of the year can wreak havoc on your neck and fingerboard.

I use Hercules (the ones on the little wood blocks). Don't use the screws/anchors they come with, though. Go to Lowes/Home De(s)pot and get longer screws and better anchors...

I too use string swings and tend to only stud mount my guitars (or use specialized drywall anchors for high weight handling). I echo the others on the neck discoloration. There are certain types of rubber on the hooks that may discolor your finish if you are not careful. I've had my PRS CU 22 on one for 8 years and the String Swing is great...no issues, no impact, no worries...

I was going to hang my guitars. Then the air conditioning service guy fell through my ceiling ............. on the wall where I was going to hang the guitars.

I'm leaving them in their cases.

Talk about "making an entrance"! How rock-n-roll of him.

First off, your wife is awesome. Functional art right.

I use the Hercules with the wooden blocks like jfwund mentioned above. Ditch the screws they came with and get some longer ones, anchor them into the studs and you'll have no problems. Just to make sure I hung a 25lb weight from mine for a couple of days after installing them and they didn't budge.

Hercules, no wooden blocks. I use 100lb screw-style anchors on each screw :D.

The auto-close function when resting weight on the hanger is very nice. I have a 2-year old that can reach the bottoms of the lower guitars, but he can't loose them from their mounts!

Yeah definitely make sure you use better anchors. One of mine ripped out of the drywall. Granted, I believe it was from my drunken friends yanking my cheapo acoustic to play with, and it was at a strange angle to reach for, but either way, upgrading the anchors cant hurt!

I think hangers for guitars are great and I have 5 at the moment.
Do be careful if your guitars are finished in nitro. I had some areas of paint come off where it rested on one guitar. Now I just make up some cotton sleeves for the holders and have not had a problem since.

I use String-Swing and Off-the-Wall hangers. Never a problem with any of them...

I just found out about these puppies: Woodies Hangers. They basically hold the guitar by the strap buttons much like a strap would.

If you're the type with a strap permanently attached to your guitar, it's probably not a winning solution, but I ordered one this morning and am looking forward to trying it out.
