Grew up in St. Lous. Worked at Ancora music and was in a great band called The Eyes. They were the big thing until they were signed and changed the name to Pale Devine. The album didn't quite capture their live sound and they were done. He became a studio guy and hired gun. He's played with a lot of people. Enrique Iglesias, Nena, Thin Lizzy, Psychadelic Furs, Guns and Roses to name a few. he's back living in St. Louis now...

My favorite new gnr guitar player...less shred like playing and tone...sometimes the shred turns me off with the new gnr..he keeps the tradition alive

Love his playing and some of his stage moves are pretty crazy! Seeing him with his other band The Dead Daisies next month! Should be cool to see him in a small club

Just do a Youtube search on him and watch the few demo videos he's in. He has a very unique style using his fingers the bulk of the time. He does one particular demo of the TC Electronics Ditto looper that would have TGP guys fainting due to massive tone, touch and feel.

The fact that DJ Ashba gets more attention then him is LAUGHABLE. Fortus is billed as "Rhythm Guitar" and Ashba as "lead". What a joke. haha

Great player and great guy. He was kind enough to play and talk to my guitar students at the high school where I teach. Of course it doesn't hurt that it was the high school he had graduated from and that I also knew him from back in his Eyes days.

A wicked player with a cool writing style. I used to see him occasionally at the Red Lion on Bleecker St. GnR must really pay well for him to stay in that "outfit". I wonder why he left NY to move back to St. Louis?

His playing on the 1st 'Love Spit Love' album is reeeally good. It's the 2 Butler brother from the Psychedelic Furs and him.
Saw Fortus tour with the Psychedelic Furs a dozen years ago and he was excellent. And that's coming from someone who saw the original Furs lineup in 1981.

Another huge Eyes fan. It was really disappointing that they didn't break out and get huge. Richard always sounded great along with each other member of the band.

This thread rocks! Can we get a Richard Fortus discography going? I've loved the bands of his that I've heard just not sure where to start when it comes to his other stuff. So far I've heard

The Dead Daisies
Chinese Democracy
Some songs by The Eyes (any album suggestions?)

Great player.

I haven't been paying any attention to modern guns and roses, so I found out about him in that most modern of ways: a gear demo video:

Been a long time since I learned anything note-for note but I took the time to learn that.

As Pete says, real musical player.

I caught a Thin Lizzy concert on one of the cable channels with him in the band. He was rippin' it!

I believe he has or had places in NY and LA. I think his family is still here in St. Louis and probably a better place to raise his kids.
