    Hey folks,

Anyone interested in seeing gut shots of a Matchless Lighning?

I've got the chassis on my bench. I can smap some shots if you like.

Pretty inpressive stuff with some interesting details.

    Cheers,

    Paul

sure, I'd love to compare it to my Bad Cat Cub, which is basically a lightning variant

Sorry for the holdup. I got assimilated by my garage this weekend!

    Some details I found interesting:

Looks like some SERIOUS power supply filtering!

All the leads are insulated. Is it some sort of heat shrink material for that? I saw an amp once that had transparent red stuff insulating leads. Looked like they had been dipped. Where do you get that stuff?

Note the tube socket mounts. They have rubber washers, which I presume is to damp any vibration. I guess that goes to reliability.

Also, look at the hand tied wire bundles. Very nice. I guess the cloth ribbon assures the insulation doesn't get compressed. Is there a real advantage to that vs tie wraps?

Other than a few splatters of flux, this thing is pretty much ART!

    Here are the shots:

BTW, sorry for the blurriness on some of these. My camera has a hard time focusing on that type of stuff for some reason, or maybe is the flourescent light? I dunno.

You're right - some cameras don't like fluoro lights. I have a Badcat amp and when you look inside all the coupling caps are labelled "Matchless"!

Also, in the Badcat all the resistor and cap leads are heatshrunk in clear heatshrink. Must take ages to build one of these amps.

See if you can set it on the floor and take the pic from standing up.
You might just be too close for the camera to accurately focus.
Then from farther away, if you take a high rez pic, you can tweak
it in some photo program and crop out all the ******** you don't want.

resize the rest and save as a jpg. ; )
