Do you keep certain guitars tuned to the wacky tunings page used...or do you just retune your guitars back and forth??
Kashmir - D A D G A D
Black Mountain Side - D A D G A D a half step down
The Rain song - D G C G C D
That's the Way - D G D G B D open G
What other tunes are alt. tunings?
I'd say it takes longer to switch your guitar than to bypass your signal and re-tune.....
I'm doing Physical Graffiti this weekend, and I'm bringing (at least) 6 guitars for myself. 2 Les Pauls, 2 Teles, an acoustic and something as a general standard tuning back-up.
Custard Pie - LP 1 (std)
The Rover - LP 1
In My Time of Dying - LP 2 (open A)
Houses of the Holy - Tele 1 (std)
Trampled Underfoot - LP 1
Kashmir - Tele 2 (DADGAD)
In The Light - LP 1
Bron-Yr-Aur - The keyboard player is actually playing this!
Down By The Seaside - Tele 1 (maybe LP 1)
Ten Years Gone - LP 1 (drop D on the fly)
Night Flight - Tele 1
The Wanton Song - LP 1
Boogie With Stu - keyboard player's acoustic retuned to std
Black Country Woman - Acoustic 1 (open G)
Sick Again - LP 1
LP 2 will be retuned to std after IMTOD and serve as the general back-up for the remainder of the set. The encores are all std and will be done on LP 1.
You need a lot of guitars to pull this off!
Dancing Days, When the Levee Breaks, Bron-Y-Aur Stomp...Kashmir - D A D G A D
Black Mountain Side - D A D G A D a half step down
The Rain song - D G C G C D
That's the Way - D G D G B D open G

Id buy a Variax and be done with it.
For those who tune down to C on the low e... any tips for making it sound more in tune?
No Danelectro?
No Danelectro?
I have played in a number of open tunings and it really helps to have one guitar per tuning when you are performing. It keeps people from throwing their beer bottles at you when you spend an eternity going from one tuning to another, break strings, etc.
In fact, I plan to write more songs in some new open tunings. That way, I have to get some more new guitars that I can take on stage.
Don't tell my wife.

I like my Reverend in that role, although I'd like it more if it had lipstick tube pickups.
Open F for Levee Breaks, btw.
Which I'm pretty sure started life on tape in open G, but was slowed for the mix. That right there is the missing ingredient to the drum sound.
