I'm a big fan of Ritchie Blackmore, realise that most of his Deep Purple, Rainbow and Blackmore's Night songs had gypsies or arabic licks,,

In Gypsy mode I usually resort to this scale shown in key of G:

    G-A-Bb-C-D-Eb-Gb-G

I watched a couple of Gypsy musicians playing one time and picked this up from the guy on guitar. There was a lot of quick runs and double-picking of the notes, particularly higher up the neck. It think this scale is common to much Mediterranean music.

Isn't that just a harmonic minor scale?

How does Gypsy & Middle-Eastern compare to Celtic, as far as modes go?

Awesome, I'm glad they are helping. Those lessons have gotten quite a number of hits daily for about 4 years now.

There are more lessons at the home site: http://lessons.mikedodge.com

Check the Indian Sliding Technique video lessons. It'll show you even more ways to exploit that Phrygian Dominant scale you're learning.

Thanks Strato, I'm hope you're getting something from them. I have a couple more lessons planned for that technique and those scales. There's an unlimited amount of application for them.
