Had a Musical Thrill Last Night

I had the very good fortune to sit in with the John Cowan Band http://www.johncowan.com/last night in Chattanooga.

For those who may be unfamiliar, John was a founding member of Newgrass Revival with Bela Fleck, has had his own groups for years and is currently playing bass and singing (with a freakin' 4 octave range) for The Doobie Brothers.

The rest of the band included my son Ed on drums, Jeff Autry who is a flat picking mofo on guitar and plays sweet jazz on a D-28 and wrote a Wes Montgomery tribute song we played; and guest Luke Bulla, http://lukebulla.com/ who writes sings, plays guitar and fiddle and is a member of Lyle Lovett's band.

What a great time!

Brian, cool pics, and congrats on the thrill. Ed is looking more and more like you every time I see him.

Congrats. John is a cool guy. I've met him several times and ran monitors for him once. He's a hell of a player and singer.

John Cowan is awesome. I'm sure it was a great time. I've seen John and his band before at the Barking Legs Theatre and they were excellent! Even did a Yes cover.

Brian, this is very cool.

John also played and sang harmonies (as well as the rest of New Grass Revival) on Garth Brooks' version of Callin' Baton Rouge -- John does a killer version himself.
