I just scored a nice Hamer Studio of some sort, it a Flat top one, 2 hums, zebra in the neck and black coils in the Bridge. I was looking on Hamers' website for the dating of the guitar. They say how to read em, and the ones starting w/ 7 are from the 70's. Mine is ser# 748151 Is it REALLY that OLD!?!!?! It looks way too new, I got it used at the local store, but come on!

Am I missing something? I know very little about them, other than I had to have it and it was a GREAT DEAL!

I believe that serial number makes it a '97.

How do you read the ser#?

The first number is the year in ones, the next five indicate which decade. The Hamer Fan Club forum gives the numbers in better detail and also has a S# directory for those that have signed up.

The first number is the last number of the year it was made, i.e. 1987, 1997, and 2007 guitars' serial numbers will ALL start with "7". The numbers following are the sequential number as it was built. My Jr serial number is 050365 - made in 2000, 50365th Hamer built.

Ah yes, I see it at the Fan Site, thanks. They Have one close to this number, and it is a '97, cool.

It may be a Hamer Special FM if it is a flat top. They were made with a flame maple top and came with HBs.

Certainly a more concise answer than mine. Nice.

FWIW my Diablo is 540125, 1995 the 40,125th Hamer.

Robert, I think you may be right. I'll try to post pics after work.
