Just stupid IMO. The Who's destructive ways were useless and a waste. That Strat wasn't backing down from Pete, either. :)

    Love it!

Those were just used guitars back then. No big deal.

Looks like that strat was still in one piece as it flew over the amplifier stack!

The Who are such an awesome band!

Although it was hard to watch that poor Strat take abuse, I understand it was showmanship that helped the Who gain notoriety. Back then, a 3-4 year old Strat was cheap, expendable, and worth the sacrafice for the show. I don't think anyone today would do that to the SAME guitar, but maybe they would to a contemporary 3-4 year old Strat.

At some economical point Pete started using Strats and Teles so he could go back after the show and put them back together for another show. The Rickies and Gibsons cost more and were too fragile for this strategy.

Looks like strap button might need digging out of the base of that Strat!!! - still find these things hard to watch even though I try to stay disconnected!

Pete had to have a headache after bashing himself in the head with that strat.

He did, there are pics of him with Teles with Strat necks and vice versa. On their boxed DVD set there is a pic of him playing 80% of an ES-335; the lower bout below the rhythm vol and tone controls is GONE. Just half an F-hole open to space.

There are lots of pics of him trashing Norlin pancake LP's.

Yep, that's what I was going to say. Strats are pretty damn sturdy.

I once read that after the first few years he hadn't really made any money because he spent it replacing all the gear he smashed. Not sure how true that is or if he even said it, nor whether if he did say it, whether he was joking.

    But I did read it.

True Story: The Who played a show at my High School in 1968. They were playing in the Grande Ballroom that weekend. Great show when they came out to play My Generation Pete changed guitars, the one he came put with for that # was a Gibson ES something, from my vantage point it clearly had a hole in the back from prior destruction. Not al the gear he destroyed was irrepairable and as reused.
