Yes we did, My wife and I. It was sublime, so many highlights. Seal, Brandi Carlisle, Chaka Kahn, Rufus Wainwright, Norah Jones, Diana Krall, Los lobos, James Taylor and more, backed by a perfect band. I’m coming to terms with it, going to take a while. What a life!

I believe she had an aneurysm or a stroke a few years ago.

She's expected to attend tonight, a repeat of the concert and then a banquet after. She has suffered through a debilitating problem with her health, aneurysm or stroke or some similar thing, which led to a period of privacy, added on to her years long battle with Morgellon's syndrome, whatever that is, and of course many decades of dedicated tobacco consumption. But she's rallied and been out among them for a while now, attending both Chick Corea and James Taylor shows, that I've heard. We saw the tables set up for the soiree, really neat concept, living lawn laid down in 10K square feet of the third floor of the Dorothy Chandler. The tables are rustic, with purposely mismatched wooden antique chairs, moss and pine cones, lanterns on the tables. It's like set for a big middle earth feast. Tix for the soiree are expensive, and sold out, as is tonight's show.

After seeing the performances last night, I am not going to miss a chance to see Brandi Carlile or Seal, ever again. Brandi's version of "Down to You" from Court and Spark was devastating. Seal did "Both Sides Now" in a pretty high key, with stunning effect. Diana Krall is a revelation on the piano and did "Amelia" in a way that makes me hope they recorded it. All the performers were great. Greg Liesz is a MONSTER musician, creating wonderful steel atmospheres, and seriously fantastic electric guitar parts. One of the greatest shows I've ever seen. Kudos to all! I did not take any video, didn't want to separate my consciousness from the magnificence of the musical moment.

One of the great artists of the last 50 years. Very few people can equal her body of work.
