Have over 30 pedals... And I keep returning to these 5. How about you?

    Lots of profound truth there.

One thing I fortunately know about myself is that I am happiest when I have just enough. Too little, and I'm lusting for that next thing I believe I need. Too much, and I experience a form of paralysis... which Strat do I play today/tonight? Which amp do I use? Which three drive pedals? Which two delays?

I currently have 4 instruments (2 Strats, acoustic and a bass), two amps and six pedals. That makes me very happy. But I'm not immune to wondering if that 7th pedal might unlock some magic potential in me. I hate white elephants. Nothing causes me more consternation than owning something that I haven't bonded with and that I cannot sell.

It’s funny, only recently heard about this term FOMO. Actually heard some Millennials using it and saying it’s a real thing for them.

In my world, no FOMO. But I must admit I’ve tried every pedal that really interested me. There’s obviously a bazillion pedals I have not tried, ones that have interested me I have acquired and tried. For me, my gear is an investment in me. I don’t watch TV often, I don’t do any social media other than TGP. Playing and gear is my enjoyment when I’m at home, and reading books, so I figure I should get the gear I really want.

    Used to be:
86 blackface Rat (30 yo, cranky cantankerous, fragile) - semi retired.
Marshall BluesBreaker (made in England) - still going strong but semi retired.
TS808 Reissue - love / hate with this thing, currently semi retired
    Danelectro Dan-Echo (dead)

Over the last five years Ive expanded my pedal collection to about 50 pedals or so, using 29 of them across 4 boards (coz I can, and it inspires and amuses me :)).
If I had to pare right down, this is what I would most likely come back to:

    Snouse BlackBox Classic
    Fulltone Secret Freq
    MI Audio Blues Pro
    Carbon Copy
    Tuner (TU-3).

All my core tones right there.

What I'm saying is, I have probably 20 pedals. Some are variations on a theme, others are just more colors in the box, but all I really need to get the sounds I like are the three I mentioned.

I tend to prefer brands because I believe that they are designed to play well together.

    Barber Electronics
    Way Huge
    Diamond
    Fairfield
    Boss

    YMMV

My bread and butter for the last 20 years are the Dunlop Wah, Boss DD (currently the DD6) delay and Boss Blues Driver

I probably have 15 or 20 and have probably owned an additional 20 over the last 10 years.

    I could easily live with:

    Sweet Honey or Les Lius
    Mythical Overdrive or LTD SR
    Zendrive or Ecstasy/Euphoria
    Direct Drive

I don't use much delay these days but I've grown to like a pinch of modulation so I'd keep the Carbon Copy

And I need reverb so either the Holy Grail Mini or more likely, Hall of Fame.

And I have a RAT clone that does what it does so I have to keep it.

And a Vox flavored pedal that I really like and that works great with the Mythical so I have to keep it.

And a MI Audio Crunchbox for heavier Marshall tones so I need that one.

Wait... I'm back up to a dozen pedals.

    Nevermind. :p

Completely dependent on what amp I’m playing, and what style of music I’m playing.

    Boss tuner
    Ibanez Tubescreamer (silver mod)
    Wampler ego
    Ceriatone Centura

Here to stay for sure. RAT if more gain/ballsy tone is required. Own 3 rats at this point.

Nice work on the tune OP!

I have probably somewhere upwards of 150 pedals and have lots of fun toying around with them in different setups.

Things I keep coming back to:
    - Crybaby wah
    - Optical compressor (e.g. Okko, Ob.1)
    - TUbe Screamer type mid boost (e.g. Maxon OD 9)
    - Blues breaker type light overdrive (e.g. Morning Glory)
    - Blues driver type medium overdrive (e.g. Super Phat Mod)
    - Marshall in a box distortion (e.g. Angry Charlie)
    - Rat/Tube Driver fat high gain leads
    - Love/hate relationship with Big Muffs and Fuzz Faces
    - Tape delay (e.g. El Cap, Belle Epoch, RE-20)
    - Plate reverb (e.g. Flint)

There is lots and lots of other stuff, but that is basically the core.

I could even take the TS and the RAT off the list and still be fine.

    1) MI Audio Cross Over Drive (only had this a few years, but it is by far the best pedal OD/Distortion I've ever used out of dozens, some of which I still keep around 'just in case', I LOVE this pedal)
    2) Turbo Tuner ST-300 Mini (what can I say, I've had every TurboTuner pedal (ST-122, ST122-Aluminum, ST200, etc) since the first one came out, and I've always had one on my board ever since - the ST-300 mini is small and doesn't take up much room. In fact it's such a staple on my board that I hardly even consider it a 'pedal')
    3) MI Audio Blue Boy Deluxe (gotta have a Tubescreamer of some sort, and I've had this one for 15 years and have it set to boost the mids as usual for this sort of pedal)
    4) Boss CH-1 Super Chorus (out of so many theoretically much better chorus pedals I've had, I keep coming back to this for some reason, had it for 30 years, even when I break out the Digitech CH-7 Chorus Factory, I end up setting it to the Boss CH1 Mode. It even makes a regular appearance on my acoustic board)
    5) Boss DD-7 (a good general purpose delay that does what it needs to - not the most complex or versatile delay I have, but by far the most convenient, and I just keep ending up using it, had it for 10 years)

Others that didn't quite make the top 5, but get regular rotation: MI Audio Tube Zone, MI Audio Super Blues Pro, Boss CP1X Compressor, ProCo RAT, Digitech CH7 Chorus Factory, VFE Merman, Suhr Koji Compressor, Boss GE-7 Graphic EQ, MI Audio Boost & Buff
