I have never posed this question on here, and I usually snicker when I read things like "what pickups for ________ tone?"
BUT...I figure...I am spending the coin at RS, so why skimp on the humbuggies now......

I have always really liked my Classic 57's, especially in SG's, but in this guitar, they seem a little "muted" if that makes any sense.......This 57 reissue paul is on the darker side, acoustically, to begin with.
A short list of pickups I am considering are:

Holmes.....People I know personally love em, but geez....expensive.
Lollar Imperials.......I have played his pickups and liked em, but havent tried his humbuckers.
    Bare Knuckles......Mules, maybe Black Dogs
    Frailins

    Thoughts?

I'm a firm believer in PAF pickups. They are crystal clear & sound quite fantastic.

My favorite are the Seymour Duncan Seth Lovers. They're affordable and made my Paul sound incredible!

If you like the Lollars, I'd go with the Imperial Low Wind

RS Guitarworks have their Fralin PAFs called RS/Fralin True 60s. Fralin later came out with his own called Fralin PAFs. If you are going with Fralins talk to them or at least check out their website.

BG Bucker Dark is a nice hand wound on the cheap ... has a lot of that PAF rattley chimey stuff going on at the top, might bring the darker guitar to life. otherwise, it's somewhat similar to a WCR Godwood. Their standard (non-Dark) version might even be better for you, but I never tried it ... the builder can help with details.

The Mule has a similar curve to the 57 Classic plus, might be too dark if not unresponsive in that guitar ... but I do plan on trying mine in a dark strat I have after an HSS routing.

I'm a big fan of the SD Custom Five in the bridge and SD 59 in the neck.

I have extremely good results with a pair of RS Fralins. So while your guitar is there already...

I like WCR's Crossroads neck and Darkburst bridge. There's alot of great PAF style pickups out there, makes it kind of hard to decide what to go with.

The RS Fralin PAFs are GREAT pickups! And so are the True 60s. Can't go wrong with either.

That guitar is gonna be awesome :D

If you want righteous tone, consider a Bareknuckle Mule in the neck and a Black Dog in the bridge. Delicious!

Man, there are so many great pickups out there. I love the WCR's Darburst Neck and Godwood Bridge myself.

Might want to get them to do the MapleFlame mod while it's there.
It will add clarity and definition to your Goldtop.

Contact David for some custom Zhangbuckers. He loves to collaborate.
