In about 2 hours I will finish my work for the week. After that its time to load gear.

Load-in and basic setup tonight. Final soundcheck Monday morning, and away we go. 5 days. 5 song EP. Easy.

I know that no one really cares. But I'm ready to go. I'm not focused on work or much of anything else. I recorded a voice-over for a commercial for work this morning. So not focused on that. Would much rather be playing my guitar.

    Hey, good luck with it!

I'm curious about the rationale of creating an EP vs LP.

    Thanks!

It's been less than a year since the release of the last LP. Since then there's been a shift in songwriting (and a lot of other stuff).

This seemed like a decent way to sneak some new stuff out. We wanted more than a couple of singles. Less than a full album.

    It all started so well.

Then it turned into a cluster****.

Amazing how quickly things can go south when one person isn't prepared.

Indeed. I had high hopes for this one.

Not all is lost, maybe. I did end up with an EPs worth of great drum and bass takes.

As you know, sometimes the magic just doesn’t happen.

Dang. Sorry to hear that, man. I'm heading into the studio in March and am hoping for a productive session.

Good rhythm tracks makes it worthwhile for me. I can always lay guitars down at home.

    The saga continues.

Going back in this afternoon to lay some guitar tracks. I could do it at home, but my preferred recording volume is much louder than my stage or rehearsal volume, so this is better.

    That's the fun stuff.

The less fun stuff. After spending some time struggling to hit his parts, the singer quit.

He's the only original member left in the band, and he doesn't want his tracks on the album. So, we had a funeral for the band a couple nights ago and the bass player and I started hunting for band names and new singers.

Replacing some of his specific skills will be difficult, maybe even impossible with local talent, but it's also an opportunity to explore some other things that were outside his skillset.

    The show must go on!

So sorry to hear about the breakdown.

Hoping that the band rises like a Phoenix and that you are able to look back at this as a blessing in disguise.

This happened to me too. I formed a band from one set of ashes of that band...then the singer bowed out "again", so I formed another band with the other set of ashes of the original band, but now...I do all the writing, recording and singing. If anyone leaves, so be it, I will not slow down for anyone.

    Hey Derek,

we have released one EP and will launch another by May. We have more than enough material written and recorded to release a boxset, but...strategies have changed with the shifting patterns of how listeners consume your music. If you throw too much at them, they kinda blank/space out and your music gets ignored. They want to receive new information in concise bite sized morsels. You serve them a full plate and they are looking for the door. That is the conclusion we came to, especially because we are not an established big band with any real amount of followers.

There are lots of Youtube videos on the subject as well.

Do what the material calls for
True about the bite size ep

I just can’t really say what I wanted to say in a bite size ep format
I’m hoping my first release will be a single bite size theme in full concept album

Only laid guitars for two tracks so far. But it's been just me, my bass player and the studio owner. It's been fun. Right now, that's more important than anything..lol
