Been searching locally for a decently priced Pro Reverb and found an ad listing one. Ad only said “Old Pro Reverb” with no pics. Called the guy for more info on condition and other details. The guy didn’t know much except he was the original owner, that he bought it in the 60s and didn‘t play it much. Ok, nothing ventured, nothing gained so I drove to his house. For the price he listed, I figured it was a late 60s Silver Face in good shape. Which is actually my preference.

    This is what he had.

It is completely original. As in absolutely everything. Soup to nuts. No rust on anything metal. Never serviced. Has the hang tags, receipt, owners manual, cover and even the original shipping box. Never seen that before. It’s not mint in the sense that it had never been played, but it is damn close. Just needs a little cleaning. Woooo Hooooo!!

This was on the guitar stand next to the amp. He got it new in February, 1969 after someone stole his 65 Strat. It came with the receipt, Gibson manual, cheesy molded end cord, truss rod wrench and the gig bag he bought with the guitar. After some haggling on the guitar, I ended taking both home with me.

Dare we even ask what you paid, or would the answer be too depressing?

I don't kiss and tell. But, I didn't steal the Pro. I was however, looking over my shoulder while I was loading her up. The Special, I paid a bit less than market, and a good deal less than a new custom shop reissue.

Want to be depressed? The original price of the Pro was $440.61 out the door. The Special was, get this, $256.34. Yikes.

I can't speak to whether or not you are in fact a blind pig, but those are more like truffles in their beauty and rarity than they are like acorns.

    Great story. Great gear.

Thing is, I didn't know about the Special until I got there. I've been looking to get another 68 or 69 to sub for a beat to crap road warrior that has a lot of sentimental value. Fell right into that one. Hence the title reference. And, I NEVER get the deals some on here seem to find.

Just finished tweaking the setup on the Special. Don’t want to push the amp too hard until I can get it checked out. Forty-six year old filter caps can be unforgiving.

Thats one (or should I say 2) rare find. You made out like a bandit. Both appear to be in excellent condition.

Yep, they are in the broken amp corner waiting for the tech to return from wherever he went. These will go out with me in late spring if I can get the maintenance done. God willin and the creek don't rise, of course.

I couldn't wait and have been running a lot of stuff thru the Pro for several hours. Man, it sounds wonderful with anything I tried. I am truly fortunate. Night all.
